Back in 1985, I had a similar problem with a family member who had law problems in the early 1900's and I just wrote a letter requesting information. For a couple of states it was the Department of Corrections. I just addressed the letter to that department, c/o State Offices, and the state capital city. I don't recall how I got a zip code but probably from a book at the postoffice in those days. You could do a Google Search Engine for Mass. Department of Corrections and see what you get. Also, go to Usgenweb.com and search Mass.

The states of Iowa and Washington readily gave me information from their files. Quite informative.
