Its a bit of a long shot but my GEMMELL database has a James Gemmell (labourer) married to an Elizabeth Reid.James was born in Johnstone, Renfrewshire about 1814 and died in Partick, Glasgow (only a few miles from Johnstone), in 1855.James and Elizabeth had 8 children, including an Elizabeth GEMMELL, who unfortunately died in 1854, aged 2 years. Other children were Jane, James, Alexander, Mary, Hugh, Gavin and Agnes.Jane, James and Agnes had all died as children before the death of James on 14 Feb1855, the other 4 children being still alive at that date.
Are there any more details in the bible which might help to make a connection?
Renfrewshire, along with the neighbouring counties of Ayrshire and Lanarkshire is the main home of the GEMMELL family worldwide, so there were probably lots of James GEMMELLs around then (and now!).
