When my grandparents came to VT possibly in the 1870's their name was Gemme according to my Mother but they changed it to James. I have not found anything about them in Quebec or Canada East as they called it.He was Frederick James 1844-1890, birthplace unknown. His wife was Rosa Cote (Phinney 1851-1920. Born in France. This was the second marriage for both and have always been told that we had half brothers and sisters still there.(Around Three Rivers area)Anyone up there that can help me???
