NEW BEDFORD -- Marie "Mary Jane" (Poitras) Gelinas, 80, of South Breault Street, Westport, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Hallmark Nursing Home. She was the widow of Roger A. "Jack" Gelinas and daughter of the late Eugene and Yvonne (Nadeau) Poitras.
Born in Saybec, Quebec, Mrs. Gelinas lived in Fall River for many years before she moved to Westport in 1951.
She was a communicant of St. George's Church of Westport and was a member of its women's guild.
She was a floor lady and sewing machine operator at the former Center Garment Manufacturing Co., Fall River, for 10 years, until she retired in 1980 from a career in the textile industry that spanned more than 30 years.
She was a past member of the Royal Travelers, the Greenwood Civic Club of Westport and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Local 178, Fall River.
Survivors include two daughters, Paulette V. Leandro and Jeannine E. Pacheco, both of Westport; two sons, Paul A. Gelinas of Warwick, R.I., and Donald L. Gelinas of Hanson; a sister, Kay Asbridge of Sun City, Ariz.; two brothers, Norman Poitras and Roland Poitras, both of Fall River; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Rose-Amie Poitras, Arthur Poitras, Leo Poitras, Rene Poitras and Andrew Poitras.
Her funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Hebert-Hathaway Funeral Home, 945 S. Main St., Fall River, which is handling the arrangements, and her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. in St. George's Church, Highland Avenue.
Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westpo
