Norman Gelinas
MERIDEN, Conn. -- Norman Gelinas, 71, of Pleasant Street, died at home Monday, Jan. 31, 2000. He was the son of the late Charles and Dora (Letourneau) Gelinas.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., July 17, 1928, he attended New Bedford schools and lived in Meriden since 1953.
Mr. Gelinas was a self-employed painting contractor and more recently was a custodian at the First United Methodist Church, Meriden.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Gelinas volunteered for the Meriden Soup Kitchen.
Survivors include three daughters, Doralee Gelinas of Wisconsin, Norma Waters of Melbourne, Fla., and Diane Ascare of Bristol; three sons, Charles Gelinas of Liberty Hills, Texas, Roger Gelinas of Edgartown, Mass., and Joseph Gelinas of Meriden; six sisters, Beatrice O'Neil, Rose Rivard, Lillian Connor, Muriel Beauvais-Warr and Gloria Wagner, all of New Bedford, and Violet Brown-McCormack of Lakeville, Mass.; three grandchildren, Rishi Gelinas, Ethan Gelinas and Allyson Gelinas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joseph "Ray" Gelinas, Phillip Gelinas, Edward Gelinas and Doris Gaulin.
His Mass will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Mary's Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.
