Jacques,
Thank you for the very interesting post. My great-grandfather is Moise Bellemare, son of Pierre Bellemare and Marie-Antoinette Girardin, who was born in Yamachiche on May 9, 1813. Moise came to the States and married my great-grandmother Adele Lessert on January 7, 1841 in what was to become Kansas City, Missouri. They were married by Father Nicholas Point, one of the pioneer Jesuit priests in Montana and Idaho. My family has totally lost touch with the Bellemare line and we have always wondered where the name originated. Do you know of any English-speaking individuals I could contact who could help me research my Bellemare ancestors?
