I am looking for information on the parents of my great grandfather born William J Geiger on 4-30-1862. He was possibly born in New York. The family story from my grandmother (his daughter) was that he ran away at a young age (9 maybe) via Canada to Michigan where he was taken in by a family named Cole. He took their name but was not adopted by them. He died in 1907 of Typhoid fever when my grandmother was only 13 so we don’t have a lot of information other than his birthdate and the name Geiger. New York is a guess as to where he was born.
