I just started working on my family tree and am very interested in finding out any information. I have limited information so far:
Sir William Potter-Geer (my great great grandfather) born in Sussex. He was Governer General of Jamacia around the 1860's.
His son William George Potter-Geer (my great grandfather) married Julia Sarah Barnham. He arrived to the US from Sussex in the late 1800's to the early 1900's.
His son Herbert George Geer (b Dec 12, 1891, d March 1965-my grandfather) arrived in Canada, I believe Sackatchewan, from Sussex in the early 1900's.
Herbert married Mary Nicholson (my great aunt) and they had a son Ernest Aurther Geer (b June 1918 d Jan 1996) Herbert and Mary divorced.
Herbert arrived to the US I am guessing anywhere from 1910-1922 with his son Ernest. Herbert married my grandmother (aunt Mary's sister) Elsie Nicholson sometime after 1921 (my grandmother arrived in the US June 10, 1921, place of birth, Arundel, England). I believe they first lived in New York, then California. They had a daughter (my mother) Elsie Mabel Geer (b December 3, 1929).
Other relatives my mother knows of. Will Geer (the actor) Charles Geer (I do believe my grandfather's brother).
Also I have been told that many of these Geer's migrated to Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
My grandmother's father was Sir William Nicholson, the famous British artist. His father, not sure of his name, was in Parliament.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
