Hello Ken Geer: When you just start out, it is important to keep notes on WHERE you find each bit of info. So, start with ALL you know from yourself on back. When you go to your parents, list them with middle and maiden names (not on the web, necessarily, but on your research papers) and their full birthdates, with location written CITY, County, State. Counties become important in genealogy. Then, date of death (full dates) CITY, Co., State and place of burial. When you find the death certificate for each generation back, say, your fathers, it should list his parents' names--or at least what the INFORMANT told the clerk.Ask librarian's how to access census records. I have abstracts for many Michigan Geers in census records and might help, but need more concrete info. Email me at [email protected] serve as the historian for the Geer Family Association out of CT.Warmly, Ginger August
