Not all MD. Gears decended directly from the 1600's John, but there may be a link. My great-grandfather, Thomas Gears, came to America around 1860 from England and began our part of the clan. Do you know where in England your ancestor hailed? I am corresponding with a possible far removed cousin in England. He is looking for a John Gears born Feb.2, 1827. You probably know that William,Thomas and John were the favored first names of the family in that order.
