Origin of name 'Ransom' in Geer lineage
Posted by: Sean Smith (ID *****9449) Date: April 27, 2010 at 11:13:11

Does anyone know the origin of the name 'Ransom' in the Geer lineage? My husband (Sean Smith) is a descendant of Ransom Gaer/Geer (1780 - 1862; from Orange County VA and son of Nathaniel Geer 1732-1815). We gave our son the middle name of 'Ransom' after his uncle, but are now trying to research the importance to the family.

Any information on where this name originated would be appreciated!
