Looking forJohn or Phillip Gee who was my great, great grandfather. Family rumor was that he came to America from England and had a house at the foot of what became the Brooklyn Bridge. The family story is he didn't like it here, though, so he returned to England. He returned some time after 1844. I know this because I have found my great grandfather in Sidcup, Kent in the 1881 census and it lists him as being born in New York. This fits with the family lore that his father went to America and came back. His father may have left older children in New York. His wife was Louisa Grice Gee in England and the children listed were Olive, Harold and Herbert (my granddad) Any of this ring any bells?
