Hi, different Bruce here to the earlier post.
Years ago while on a trip to Scotland I looked up the origins of the name.It comes form a small area near Nairn, just south and slightly towards Forres. There is a farm there called (surprisingly) Geddes Home Farm. The owners, although not Geddes', had a book with some history on the name.It is Pictish in origin and goes back before the 12th century. There are the remains of an iron age hill fort on the farm and there used to be a town called Geddes nearby.I have a copy of an old Shire map (undated) that shows a Geddes Chap. (I presume chappel). This came from the local studies dept, Moray district library.
We are a sept of the Gordon clan with ties to Rose and Scott.
