Hello Matt,
Thank you posting these earlier Gearharts.
I beleive there may be a possible family connection
in Miami Co. Ohio.
My family legend is:
4 Gearhart brothers depart from North Carolina
1 brother to Ohio, one brother to Kentucky,
one brother to Arkansas and one went
west,may have died.
I have found in research this to be true, early Gearharts
in these states.
My fourthgreatgrandparents are:
John Gearhart,Sr and Katherina(maiden name unknown)
census records indicate their birth anywhere from
1765 to 1779 per Floyd Co.Census Records
Birthplace is unknown
Katherina's death 1830s probably Floyd Co.Ky
burial place unknown
John,Sr's death 1840s Floyd Co.Ky
burial place unknown
I have traced them in Wythe Co.Virginia
until 1801
and their migration to Floyd Co.Kentucky
could be any time after that, however I haven't
found a record for them until the 1810 Floyd Co.Census
My thirdgreatgrandparents are:
John Gearhart,Jr(Bloomer) and Florence Patton
John,Jr and Florence born about 1804 Virginia.
This isn't the family line you describe
in your post but we may still have a connection.
You note a very early Gearhart in Southwest
Virginia.
I have a website,which includes a research
center of Gearhart records
I would like to elaborate farther in email with
you as well.
Thanks for sharing:-)
