I am looking for Charles (Charley) Bietel travel from Damstadt, Germany sometime between 1864 & 1872. Family says they got to USA in 1872. He arrived with his wife Mary and son Henry age abt 7. they lived in PA for a short time Mary was ill and did not live long after the trip. From what I can make of the papers that the family has and part of it is half german/english words. I believe they went to Ohio for a short while but ended up in Daviess Co. KY by the 1880 census because they are on the census as shingle factory workers. Henry remained in Daviess and Ohio Co. KY. While Charley moved to Tunica MS working for the railway. I have not been able to determine which one. He bought property from the Louisville, New Orleans and New York Railway. Which I recently learned did not get off the ground. While he was buying the property it was already transfer to the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railway. He paid for 80 acres and the end date was 1894. Yazoo & MS started in 1892.

He worked at a railway station called Clayton in Tunica Co. what railway I don't know.

Most of the problem comes with the spelling of his name but on all the documents down there he used the name Charley Beatel. Any help would be greatly appreciated we have be trying to find out what happened to him since he left KY.

Having the letters do little good because his english is not good. And what you thing one word is it may be something else. We also have a letter from his sister but it is in German and we tried to have it translated but he only knew some German and this is old German.

Thanks for listening.

Bev Sanders
