Well, sure, it takes a while to get them onto CD, but when I access a tree online, I know I'm not accessing the CD that it's on for sale. For online access, it's got to be in a database, I would think. I can still understand some small delay in getting them into the database.
However, it seems that this procedure leads to a large number of somewhat duplicative trees, when people submit approximately the same tree over and over as they add and correct more and more data. Even though existing CDs can't be changed, it seems like it would be much more useful to researchers who use the online resources for submitters to be able to replace old trees in your database.
For example, if I search for a name and find it in several trees from the same submitter, but with different dates, how do I know which is the latest submission (and therefore, presumably, the one thought to be correct). I know I can contact the submitter. Perhaps some extra work for researchers could be avoided if the WFT procedures were modified some. Just food for thought. (I'm in the software business, and I know how users always want something more than what they have!)
Thanks.
