I did finally figure out that if you put in a surname only in the box at the top of the page that says "Jump...." you can get a list of everyone in the state with that surname (but you have to enter both REUTER and RUETER as separate searches; no Soundex choice as on Ancestry).That's okay for a reasonably uncommon name.But it ain't agonna work very well for my ANDERSONs and JONESs.
If there are any other workarounds or ways to use a wildcard, they have escaped me so far.
Like you, I like the way the pages here load, and I have found some folks that I can't find at Ancestry due to the differences in what years have been indexed, but it likely won't be worth keeping both subscriptions if/when
Ancestry gets all the years indexed unless Genealogy.com improves the search function.
