Elizabeth,
This is not my family but they intermarried into my KNOTT family which was Johnson Ranney b. 1814 son of Jeremiah RANNEY.

The JOHNSON RANNEY in the old Jackson Cem. was the son of STEPHEN who died Sept. 4th or 5th 1827 in Cape Girardeau County MO...(His death date is from his probate file)William C. RANNEY was the guardian of Johnson's 3 children.
Old Jackson Cemetery has:
MARY C. GAYLE wife of Johnson RANNEY b. 1808 but death year is unreadable....d. April 6 18__
MARY RANNEY BEARDSLEE b. 1840 d. 1879
JOHN BEARDSLEE b. 1830 in NY or NJ d. 10 May 1892
EMMA F. BEARDSLEE b. 1862 NY d. 1882

Johnson RANNEY is buried there with a large stone: Born 19 Dec. 1789 and died Nov 11, 1849.
His wife Emily NEALE's burial site is unknown but a tomb was contracted to be built in 1850 for her.

Now that Mary Gayle wife of Johnson RANNEY would not be the mother of Mary RANNEY BEARDSLEE b. 1840

This Mary b. 1840 had brother Thomas Neale Ranney and Johnson RANNEY. Mary and Thomas were college educated in the 1850s. From my reading I thought this Johnson RANNEY was an older sibling maybe from a different marriage. Because it mentions the minor children in 1849 were Thomas and Mary.

Hope this helps someone and please post corrections
Dawn in MO
