I found an obituary for Stephen Gay online (www.fultonhistory.com):
THE SYRACUSE DAILY JOURNAL. SATURDAY. MARCH 13. 1897
Death of Stephen Gay a Well-known Resident of Apulia
Stephen Gay died at his home in Apulia on Sunday, March 7th. The deceased, who had resided in the town of Fabius for the past 40 years, was 59 years of age at the time of his death. Over a year ago he suffered a shock of paralysis, followed some month later by a second shock, the third shock causing his death, which released him from great suffering. He was a member of the Methodist church and held in the highest esteem by a wide circle of friends he leaves, beside a widow, five children, two daughters, Mrs. F. F. Van Hoesen of Brooklyn, N. Y., and Mrs. R H. Daley of Summit Station: three sons. Charles R, of Tulley, William B., of California, and A. S. Gay of Summit Station. The funeral took place on Wednesday. the remains being interred ln the cemetery of Fabius village.
