Does anyone know anything how the name of Maudeville/Mauderville/Manderville Gay came into being.
Barney Gay of Jefferson/Richmond County, Ga. had a granddaughter named Lucy Maudeville Wells (Serepta Alice Gay and Louis Wilson Wells). I am trying to figure out where the name came from.
Another grandson of Barney's was Hervey Manoockles - where did that name come from?
They sound like surmanes.
There was a William Maudeville Gay - 1930 in Clay County.
Don't recognize any of these names....please help.
