I'm hoping that someone from this site can help me either prove or disprove a possible link in my family history research. I hope this post isn't too long or confusing.
Here is the info that I know for fact:
My g-g-g-grandmother Mary (mnu) GAY (died befApril,13,1842
in Fountain Co., IN)
She was married to (unk) GAY.
Mary ??? and ??? GAY had the following children:
Van GAY m. Mary MEAD /Bath Co., VA on 12/26/1818
Isabella GAY m. John JINKINS /Bath Co.,VA on 11/28/1823
Lucy GAY m. George HANKINS /Fountain Co.,IN on 01/29/1829
Archibald GAY m. Sarah SALMON /Fountain Co.,IN on 07/23/1829
Joseph GAY m. Margaret KING /Fountain Co.,IN on 01/19/1839
Samuel B. GAY
Robert GAY
Here is the part I am guessing about:
Could my g-g-g-grandmother have been ?????????????????
Mary SWEARINGEN (b. abt 1769 -d. aft 1841)
m. to
Thomas GAY in Augusta, VA on June 26, 1793
Her parents were:
Van SWEARINGEN (b. 1746 in MD / d. 1830 in Bath Co., VA)
and
Lucy DAVIS (b. abt 1742 in MD)
whose children were:
Leonard SWEARINGEN
Mary SWEARINGEN (the one in question)
Samuel SWEARINGEN
Clementius SWEARINGEN
Lucy SWEARINGEN
Van SWEARINGEN
Thomas SWEARINGEN
William SWEARINGEN
John Alexander SWEARINGEN

Here's the next question:
Could my g-g-g-grandfather ??? GAY
be related to:
John GAY (b. 1675 in IRELAND)
m. to
Isabella (mnu)
whose children were:
Robert GAY /b.1698 in PA
Henry GAY /b.abt 1700 in PA
William GAY /b. 1702 in Pa
Thomas GAY /b. 1704 in PA
Archibald GAY /b. 1706 in PA
Samuel GAY /b. 1708 in PA

I'm basing my guesses on these two families on the similarities with names of my g-g-g-grandparents children, the locations of the families, and the timelines.
Any help one way or the other would be greatly appreciated.
