James Hope and Mary Hope, part of S F Austin's "original 300" were, I believe, Father-Daughter. I think--and may be wrong--she was born in Ala. She married (in Texas)Thomas Gay, born in Georgia. He later participated in the battle of SanJacinto. He died, I think, around 1839 of Yellow Fever, suppossedly contracted on a business trip to Galveston. GE was their first son. One of GE's sons-Thomas Napoleon Gay is my GreatGrandfather. Do you know where Thomas Gay came from in Georgia? Where was James Hope from in England? J Hope supposedly died at sea while returning either to England or to Texas.
