I have some information which seems to tie in with your Henry Gay. Most of this came from research done by my father in the late 1970's. I have citations for some of the references he used.
My grandmother, Mary Wilson Gay, b.24 Feb 1870, Greene Co., MO, m. George Sherman Wiley 4 Apr 1890, Greene Co., MO, d. 30 Jan 1944, Ontario, CA.
Her father, Alexander Gay, b. 1769, VA (probably IOW Co.), m. ???, date unk., d. 1856, Cooper Co., MO. Sons Joshua Gay (b. 1819, KY, m. Louisa Vandiver 24 Jan 1850, Boonville, MO, d.1889, Greene Co., MO), Thomas C. Gay (m. Mary Ann ???, date unk.), George A. Gay (m. Juliette Callaway 10 Sep 1857, Cooper Co., MO), and three daughters whose married names (Root, Vandiver, and Wall) are all I have.
His father, Thomas Gay, m. Peggy ???, date unk., d. 1806, Lincoln Co., KY. Children: Thomas Gay, Samuel Gay, James Gay, Patsy Gay, John Gay (m. Agnes McKee 15 Aug 1796, Lincoln Co., KY), Alexander Gay, Hannah Gay (b. 11 Mar 1764, m. Elisha Bailey 19 Dec 1782), Elizabeth Gay (m. ??? Briggs), and Sarah Gay (m. Archibald Huston 7 Jul 1792, Lincoln Co., KY).
His father, Thomas Gay, m. Rebecca Page 11 Nov 1699, IOW Co., VA, d. 1750, IOW Co., VA. Children: John Gay, Jonathon Gay, Mary Gay, Thomas Gay, William Gay, Jethro Gay, Charles Gay, Edmond Gay, and Fereby Gay.
His father, Henry Gay, m. Joane ???, date unk., d. before 1689. His widow Joane married Robert Lawrence in 1689 in IOW Co., VA. Thomas is the only child I have any information about.
