Will of Robert Galthorpe of Norwich, 1602

In the name of God, Amen, the 11th day of May 1602, in the 44th year of the reign of Elizabeth, by grant of god, Queen of England, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, I Robert Galthorpe of Norwich, Cook, being sick in body, yet of good memory, praise be to God, do ordain and make this my last will as follows. First and principally I commit my soul to almighty God and my body to the earth from whence it came, to be buried at the direction of my executors. I give and bequeath to the patrons of the church of St Peter Mancroft for my burial in the same churchyard and for breaking ground there, twenty shillings. I give and bequeath unto Mr Wells, minister of the same church, for his pains to be taken for about preaching a good sermon at the time of my burial, twenty shillings. I will have given and bequeathed to amongst the poor people that shall come to my burial and to hear a sermon preached the sum of £4.
I give and bequeath to Joshua, my son, all my messuage with apputances wherein I now dwell, to have and hold said messuage with appurtances, immediately from and after the decease of my Margaret my wife, upon condition that the said Joshua pay or cause to be paid unto Edward and Stephen my sons, £30, viz unto said Edward one year after next decease of my said wife and unto the said Stephen within two years next after decease of my said wife Margaret, which first £4 I will shall be paid in the Guildhall Porch of the City of Norwich. If said Joshua and his heirs shall make default of payment or part thereof contrary to the true meaning herein expresses, then I will the said messuage with appurtances to my said sons Edward and Stephen, and to their heirs forever. And further, and my will is that if the said Joshua shall depart this present life without issue of his body, then the said messuage and appurtances to be and remain unto Edward my son and his the heirs lawfully begotten, and for want of such issue, to be made unto Steven, my son and to the heirs of his body truly begotten. And for want of such issue, to the right heirs of me said Robert forever.
I give and bequeath unto Edward my son the sum of £40 of good English money to be paid to him by my executors at such time as said Edward shall attain the full age of 22 years. I will that it is my mind that it shall be lawful for my executor to forbear to pay said sum of £40 to my son Edward during as many years as Margaret my said wife shall pay yearly the sum of £4.
I give and bequeath unto Stephen my son the sum of £30 of good English money to be paid to him by my executors at such time as said Edward shall attain the full age of 22 years. I will that it is my mind that it shall be lawful for my executor to forbear to pay said sum of £30 to my son during as many years as Margaret my said wife shall pay yearly the sum of £4.
I give to Margaret my wife, all my goods, chattels and implements of household, and household plate, and make her sole executor of this my last will and testament.
Witnessed, Edmond Mamocke, Augustine Blowse, and R. Rosse.
