My Gawthrop ancestors came fromHiston. I understand some of them are buried inthe Round Church in Cambridge. I am a descendant of "Little Jack the Plowman" who had six children:

Fred (known as Bet the Barber in Cambridge), Jinny, Emma (a dressmaker) Maria (very small in stature) and Hannah and George. George married Elizabeth Jones and settled in Liverpool in 1890s. They had four children: Richard (died aged about 4) John, Alfred (my father) and May. The spelling on John's birth certificate was Gawthroup and on his brother's certificate the "u" was omitted.
