Thank you for your reply.
My wife's Gawthrop family originates from the Cononley area, about 10 miles north of Bingley, and I had wondered if there might be a link to the Hall - family name came from it or named after the family.
There is another Gawthorpe house nearer to Cononley, which is spelled Gartrop on an 1870 map and Gathrawp on the 1841 census, although nobody of that name living there. This one can be seen on http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/129870
