Will:Leonard Gawthrop of Nether Catton, Yorkshire, 1583
In the name of God, on the 11th February in the 25th year of reign of our Sovereign lady Elizabeth, by the grace of God, queen of England, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, I Leonard Gawthrop of Nether Catton in the county of York, sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance praise be to God, do make this my last will and testament in form and manner following.First I commit my soul unto almighty God my maker and redeemer and my body to buried in the churchyard of Catton.
I bequeath unto ellen Gawthrop my wife and William Gawthrop my son, my farm hold with the lease unto the equal condition of them both., and to pay all payments and do all duties equally.
Also I bequeath unto the said William Gawthrop my son, one cow now in his possession.
Also I give unto Alison Blyth my sister, one bushel of …….
The rest of my goods unbequeathed, my debts and funeral expenses discharged, I give unto Ellen my wife, and Isabel and Jone Gauthrop my daughters equally amongst them, whom I make executor of this my lasy will and testament.
