This is a transcript of the will of John Gawthroup, Blacksmith of Histon, Cambridgeshire, England, 1756
In the name of God, Amen, I John Gawthroup, of the parish of Histon, in the County of cambridge, Blacksmith, being sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, in manner and form following:
First, I give and bequeth unto my wife Sarah Gawthroup, one Clof of pasture, containing three roods, lying and being on the side of Yond brook in the parish fields of Histon, to her and her heirs forever. I give unto my wife, Sarah Gawthroup, four acres, one rood and a half, of arable land, lying in the fields of Histon aforesaid, to her and her assigns forever.
And I do likewise make and ordain my wife, Sarah Gawthroup as aforesaid, my whole and sole executrix, of this my last will and testament, confirming this and no other to be my will and testament. I witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this fifth day of January 1756.
