Blanche F. Gavigan of Waukegan A Mass for Blanche F. Gavigan, 88, will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave., Waukegan. Interment will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan. Born March 6, 1918, in Wauconda, she passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Blanche was an inspiration to four generations, and an unbelievable gift to her five children, 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Despite her many challenges in life, Blanche was the bond and the strength of her family. She approached life with an unbelievable faith and positive attitude in the most difficult circumstances. Her favorite hobbies included dancing in her younger days, laughing in all situations and spending time with her family. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bingo and listening to Ron Santo rant about the misfortune of the Chicago Cubs. However, there is little doubt that her favorite pastime was talking about her family with anybody who was willing to listen. She was an advisor, a confidant and the center of her family's universe. She will be impossible to replace. When those who knew her best think back about her, a smile will come to their face. All of this who were touched by her humor and kindness realized immediately they were in the presence of someone special. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family and her memory will live in their hearts forever. Blanche was a member of St. Anastasia Parish and the Anastasians. She had worked as a civil service supervisor at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, retiring with 30 years of service. She is survived by her children, Patrick (Bernadette) Gavigan of Allentown, Pa., Nancy (James) LeMieux of Waukegan, Peggy (Bob) Asma of Winthrop Harbor, Mary Jen (the late Ned) Fisher of Waukegan and Mike (Kim) Gavigan of Algonquin; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and her devoted caregiver, Ule. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1979; grandson, Thomas Gavigan; her parents, Harry and Nellie (nee Tiffany) Bristol; brothers, Lawrence and Russell Bristol; and sister, Genevieve Osmond. Those wishing to make a donation in Blanche's memory may make them of St. Anastasia Church or School. For information, 847-623-0495.
