I would love to help you to find your dad's family and I presume you mean from Ireland where the Gavan family originated many many years ago,but I need to know the names of your ancestors who first arrived in America,you find them at the Mormon family history centres,where they hold a huge amount of family history,the people there are not there to convert you but are really helpful and will show you how to find these first ancestors of yours,there are many others ways but this is probably for you the best as a beginner,you call the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and ask for the family section ,tell them who you are and your age and I know they will help,
