Susan...Your posting is very interesting. Could you post to the forum what country Mr. Gauss was from, and when he immigrated? I am interested as I am researching GASS family history; they were in Germany/Switzerland, and the famous inventor "GOTT" (sp?) was from the village along the Rhine my GASS family lived from 1600 on...My research has shown that the name "GASS" was changed by different branches to distinguish themselves from one another; also that it was an issue of the "anglicization" of the name when they immigrated and American officials spelled the name phonetically. Thanks for your posting; would you mind e-mailing me besides posting a response to the forum? Thanks for any help!
