My grandfather's name was John Lawrence Gause and was born in Illinois on Dec. 26, 1879. I believe that my grandfather was born in Lewiston Illinois.
John's father's (my great-grandfather) name was George Gause and was born in Wisconsin in 1842 and died in Illinois in 1882. He served in the Civil War (Company G - 4Oth Regiment WI). After the war on his way back home, he apparently settled in Illinois. George married a woman named Rhoda who remarried after George died to a man named Conklin. I don't know where in Wisconsin George Gause was born. According to the 1880 Illinois census his father was born in Germany and his mother was born in Vermont
This is about as far as I can go tracing the Gause side of my family tree.
I would be most interested in hearing what you know about your "Roots" and if you can make any connection to any of what I have said. Dates, names, places, Gause reunions, books on Gauses, etc.
