I don't think we have the same Wm.Gause but I may be of some help to you. I believe I am descended from John Gause the brother of Benjamin A. Gause. Our family is white and didn't have slaves according to the census but Benjamin A. Gause did. In his will dated 7/16/1825 he specifically lists the names of each of his slaves. On page 2 of the will it appears that a slave named _illy went to his son John J. Gause. My copy is so poor that I cannot tell if the name is Willy or Billy. This could be your gr gr grandfather or he could be a descendent of one of the other slaves of this family, since most would have kept the name of Gause. John J. Gause died a year later in 1826 and his will does not list the specific names of the slaves. Most of them came back to his brother Benjamin Gause, Jr. who moved to Marion County. He died in 1860 and I haven't found a will for him.
