Hi Ronald, I have information on the Gauldin family. George Clay Gauldin/Gouldin was born July 1883 in Virginia. His siblings are: (1) Robert Lee Gauldin (2) Mesady L. Gauldin (3) Adolphus W. Gauldin (4) William Oliver Gauldin (my great-great grandfather) I believe there are also more, but my records are not with me at the moment. Their parents were: (a) George Washington Gauldin/Gouldin b. 1854, Virginia occupation: Farmer (as listed on 1880 Virginia Census) (b) Martha J. Waldren Gauldin/Gouldin b. Aug. 1849, Virginia (I am still researching a lot on her!) occup.: listed as "Keeping House" (I have more info. I can give you later) These were found initially on Soundex G435 for Pittsylvania Co. in Callands District...I can give you more info later this week when I can get my records together and bring them to work... George Washington Gauldin's parents were: (a)Samuel Gouldin/Golden b. 1820 (?) I have this in my records at home... occup: labourer (b) Catherine "Caty" Johnson Gouldin b. 1814 Here is a description of their marriage and family records from a friend who is also researching branches of this family: For the marriage record of Samuel Thomas Gauldin and Catherine Johnson, see MARRIAGES OF PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA. (1990), by Mike K. Williams, p. 27, gives their marriage bond as follows: Samuel Gauldin, age 16 to Catherine Johnson, age 22, on 20 Dec. 1836 - signer of certificate was John Johnson who was also surety. This record places the year born of Samuel as ca. 1820 and Catherine as ca. 1814. All of the records viewed, except two, the 1860 and 1870 census records of Pittsylvania Co. name the husband of Catherine (Johnson) Gauldin as Samuel. The 1860 and 1870 census gives his name as Thomas which I assume is his middle name, as the birth and marriage records of his children give his name as Samuel. Samuel Gauldin died in 1862, while serving in the army. His widow, Catherine, filed for a pension under the Va. Confederate Pension Act of 1888, and her application is edited as follows. Catherine Gauldin, Dyer's Store, Henry Co., Va., widow of Samuel Gauldin, Co. D, 38th Va. Regt. He died 13 May 1862, Richmond, Va., cause: measles. Married in Pittsylvania County in 1836 or 1837. Referring to MARRIAGES OF PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA, 1831-1861, Mike K. Williams, Complier: Samuel Gauldin, 16, to Catherine Johnson, 22, on 20 Dec. 1836, Signer of Certificate was John Johnson, Surety by William Haymore, performed by Rev. Nathan Anderson. Based on the Pittsylvania Co. census records from 1850 through 1870, birth & marriage records of Pittsylvania and Henry counties, the known children of Samuel Thomas Gauldin and Catherine Johnson are: i.
