Thank you for your reply, Gary. I will have to check my notes, but I believe it was the 1880 census that listed my Jacob Gaul b.1829, Hesse Darmstadt. He married Mary Bertzel (also saw it spelled Boertzel) in Mason county WV. They lived in Meigs county, Ohio. I think it was Orange twp. I have found some info on the family in WV and OH records online, but do not have any immigration/emigration info. I know the Bertzel family immigrated around 1845 (only have Germany for them), but am unsure of the year for Jacob Gaul. I would appreciate any info you might be able to provide. Thanks again. rosie
