to Barbarahinckley--the willian joseph gaul, who was my father's father, was born in 1855, suposedly in Ireland. It is rumored, but not yet confirmed, he was the oldest of 11 or 12 children. Reportedly, he came to the U.S. at the age of 14, went to work for a railroad to earn money to bring his brothers and sisters to the U.S. At the age of 33, he married, left the railroad and became a farmer in or around Vail,Iwoa. I am going to try looking for leads in Vail.
