Hi Karen and others,
I appreciate the interest in ancestors of John Gattis and wonder if anyone has found more to add since this October 2001 posting. Sandra stated that she believed John's father to be James E. Gattis, born 1704 in Donegal, Antrim, Ireland, son of Paul Gattis, ca 1665 - 1725. This is two generations farther back than I had previously heard of.
The Gattis family's appearance in Orange County, NC in the 1760's is pretty well documented, but I wonder if anyone has more on the family's brief stay in the Cumberland County, PA area and their time in Northern Ireland.
