I am trying to locate information on Charity 'Gatling' who lived around 1840's - 1860's in the North Hampton, Hertford , and possibly Gates counties, NC. area. She parented Fannie, Martha, Abraham, Alan, Alphonza, David, George, Johnny, Junius, and Louis. I am the offspring of Louis Gatling. She was a slave child who probably mated with a man not of her choosing. I'd like to know more about them. As she became blind, she was allow to work in the 'house', and not as a field hand.
