I did not find the site of the Gatewood Plantation but I do plan to return to spend more time in search of clues. I did see the river they lived on and have a general idea of where it was located but nothing concrete. They have absolutely wonderful research room at the courthouse but at the time of John Gatewood they mostly referred to trees and paths and others peoples property in defining location. I am working on collecting names of neighbors listed in wills, land transfers, etc. to maybe narrow down the location if I can find where the neighbors lived. Also I know that Archbald Ritchie purchased another ancestors property when they left the area and maybe I can find a listing of where he owned property as he was a very prominent citizen.
