Searching for any information on my g-g-grandfather THOMAS WATERMAN GATES born in 1821 in NY and died in 1878 in Portland, Oregon. Migrated over the Oregon Trail in 1847 with his brother ALONZO GATES and settled in Oregon. Married CYNTHIA YORK in November of 1847 in Joseph City, Oregon.
Children were: WILLIAM WATERMAN, LAURA, LAFAYETTE, DON CARLOS, EMMA MAE, MARY ELLEN and my g-grandmother SARAH ADELINE born in 1860.
Thomas's mother may have been a WATERMAN. It is believed that she was from VT but not sure.
