I was browsing the Gates family and was delighted to see a Gates in Acton, MA.
My mother was a Gates, daughter of Emrick Paul Gates who was the blacksmith of Acton from the early 1900's. He imigrated from Blandford, Nova Scotia to Boston in 1900, moved to wallaston, and then settled in Acton. His son Paul Porter Gates was the first president of Emerson Hospital and cheif surgeon there for many years. The Gates elementary school is named after him.
I'm interested in knowing if there is a tie between the two Gates families (Stephen Gates / James Alfred Gates). I had a cousin Stephen Gates from Blandford and I expect he is still living - but moved to California and we lost track of him.
Anyway - nice to see more Gates!
