Hi Mr. Mellot: You have stated that you have disproved that Peter and Mary (Josselyn) Gates were the grandparents of Stephen Gates by finding a marriage license of a couple with the same names. Questions: 1) How do you know the 1605 marriage is not of another couple with the same names? That happened a lot with folks with the limited number of given names folks used in those days. 2) Do you agree that the persons of Mary Josselyn, dau of Edward; and Thomas Gates, son of Geoffrey, existed? Do we have a key event of either life that establishes a starting point for an estimate of date of birth or of date of reaching maturity? 3) Even if the 1605 couple is the dau of Edward and son of Geoffrey, then does that not raise the possibility that Stephen could be the son of this couple and not Thomas? Sounds like a lot more facts need to be dug up to establish limits of time frames for when events happened and establish assertions of who's who. At any rate, I still like the idea we're tied into the Jane Grey conspiracy...., somehow [grin].
