Perhaps this could be a starting point; Will of James Gates Henrico County, VA.1 Oc.t 1691 left property to James Gates, Jr.; Will inventoried by John Gates 1 Feb 1703/4, Will of Allice Forest to son in law James Gates rec 3 Oct 1715, regarding survey taken up by James Gates rec Nov 1734. Will witnessed by James Gates and Rebeckah Gates 2 June 1718 Henrico County, VA, , Deposition of John Gates, about age 36,that 12 or 15 years ago he lived with Mrs. Jane Gower of Henrico Co, who employed him to tend an acre of land and plantation belong to to her called "Mount Misery" to save it according to law, being land Mr. Avel Gower formerly owned. Dated March 5, 1710, recorded 15 March 1710. Signed John Gates.; property bounded by Joseph Patterson and William Gates dated 1 Oct. 1707; John Gates witness to a deed dated 1 May 1708 Henrico County. VA.
