It is my understanding that Emory Gates who married Elizabeth Stone was the son of William Gates and his wife Mary ?Wilson? who first settled in what is now Monroe County KY and then dropped south to the vicinity of Celina, TN. This info. from a letter of the late Homer Gates of Celina to the late W.C. Stone - both amateur genealogists who regrettably relied too muc ho noral history. I really think Homer is right about your Emory however. I may also have some info. on the ancestry of your Elizabeth Stone.
