I have two original studio photographs of this man, one with name “Gilbert Harrison Gates” at “age 22 – 1888” and one marked “G. Harry Gates”, taken about 1885, in which he looks about age 20. I would like to get these photos back to family members. The photo taken in abt 1885 was taken in Barre (Worcester Co.) MA, while the one marked 1888 was taken in Ware (Hampshire Co.) MA.
I found Gilbert H. Gates in the 1870 census for Petersham (Worcester Co.), age 3, son of Samuel W. and Harriet Gates. In 1880, he was in Barre, MA census as Gilbert H. Gates, living with Harriet, his mother. By 1920, he was Gilbert, age 54 and a restaurant proprietor in Boston. One World Tree shows his birthdate as 2 Jul 1866 in Petersham, and his parents as S. Harrison Gates and Harriet Bigelow.
