Searching for information related to James P. Gates who was born in Tennessee in 1814. He married Mary Jackson of South Carolina. In the 1860 Alabama Census (Pickens County) James is listed with his wife Mary and six children. Childrens ages range from 18 to 5 yrs. He may have had a brother named John P. Gates also born in Tennessee and listed in the same census. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
