Harriet Gates was the daughter of Thomas David Gates (b.29 Aug. 1820 - d. 6 May 1907) and his wife, Eliza Ann Marsh (1816 - 1901). Harriet married Sherman Parker and moved to Nebraska. Harriet had a brother Thomas J. Gates who also moved to Nebraska, and a sister Rosetta (b. 1855) who married Baz S. Whims. Most of the Gates family moved to Kanawha County, West Virginia - including her brothers,
Alexander P. Gates, Lovell C. Gates, Almon David Gates, and Charles Amos Gates. I am not certain where the other brother, William D. Gates, settled. I believe that there were also two other daughters of Thomas Gates who died very young.
While I am not a direct descendant of this family, my first cousins were and I have collected some information over the years about this Gates family.
I would be interested in hearing more about Harriet and Sherman Parker and their family.
