I am direct descendant of the Aug 1638 immigrant Stephen Gates from Hingham, Co. Norfolk, England to Hingham, MA, with wife Ann Veare (or Vere), sometimes named Hill).
I have much detail on his descendants in my line (Stephen Jr., Simon, Benjamin, Benjamin Jr., William Buckminster, William, Frederick, Frederick William, Helen Gates (my mother). Mt particular area of interest is in locating proof of the parents and grandparents of the immigrant Stephen. Also trying to determin if there is any connectivity between Sir thomas Gates of Jamestowne, his son Capt Thomas Gates and our Stephen. I must also state that Stephen Gates WAS NOT a son or grandson of Peter Gates of London and wife Mary or Marian Josselyn, since they were not married until 1605. Many genealogists have stated that Peter Gates was grandparent of the immigrant Stephen, but I have proof that that is not true.
