Charles A. Gaston

Charles A. Gaston was born in Oxford, Mississippi, c1840-41, the son of a clergyman (L.?)B. Gaston from South Carolina (b.c1807) and wife S. P. Gaston. According to the 1850C of Lafayette county, Mississippi, Charles (10) had an older brother, William T. (12), and a younger brother, Lee B. (7). Charles's adult occupation was that of telegraph operator, living at various times in Mobile, serving in the Confederate Army in Virginia, and, post-war, in Memphis, where he was in the late 1870s-1880s manager of the Memphis Western Union office and later worked as a bookkeeper. Married Jenny Campbell of Fayette, Tennessee, 18 Jun 1867. No known children - she was living in Memphis as widow in 1891.

Can anyone place Charles and his kin in the Gaston family tree? Handwriting in the 1850 Mississippi census makes me uncertain of the first initial of his father's name and of the denomination in which he was a minister (appears to be "OSP," with uncertainty over the second letter). Telegraphers of that era often tended to move about, complicating my attempt to "flesh out" a sketch. I would be most appreciative of help or direction.
