Dave,unfortunately, you're asking about a Gaston branch of which its very hard to get any good information. Getting information out of N. Ireland is very difficult the further you look back. I did write their National archives but all I got was a will from the early or mid-1800s of a John Gaston but there was nothing at all helpful in terms of relating his family or to any other Gastons. However, if you're interested, I could send you the name of a genealogist in Ballymena who might be able to help you with ancestors from the 1800s. She couldn't find anything, unfortunately, on the more remote Gastons of the 1600s-early 1700s.
If you are fortunate enough to find any links back to you John of 1809 and any of his relatives, I'd be interested to know and there are several others in your same situation that would also be very interested in that information. Good luck and I mean that sincerely.
